Laura-Mae is passionate about ensuring that clinicians, patients, and community-based organizations all have an equal voice in research and that findings are successfully translated in their intended settings. Her practice-based research aims to increase access to, and quality of, health care in diverse, underserved, and rural areas. Her current focus is on managing long-term opioid therapy for individuals with chronic pain.
As a professor and practicing family physician, Laura-Mae has established two regional clinical research networks — the primary care-based WWAMI region Practice and Research Network and the health systems-based Northwest PCI Network. She co-led the national Dissemination and Implementation Workgroup across the Clinical Translational Science Award (CTSA) program, as well as the national Practice Based Research Network (PBRN) Special Interest Group within the National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network.
